गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः
गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।
गुरुःसाक्षात् परब्रम्हा
तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नम: ॥

Gurur Saakshaata Parabrahma Tasmai Shri Guruve Namah |
The mantra recognizes the value of the gurus’ teachings in finding a connection with divinity and expresses gratitude for all spiritual teachers and the guidance they provide in overcoming ignorance to find enlightenment and awakening.
The mantra is also sometimes called Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu Guru Devo Maheshwara, acknowledging the holy trinity of the Hindu gods. It represents the three stages of life and the three elements of the self, and states devotion to the guru who removes darkness and ignorance.
By recognizing that Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva represent elements of the self, the mantra also invokes the spiritual teachings embedded in the self, helping to connect with the individual's inner teacher. Some consider the Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu mantra to be a self-empowering mantra.
