Session Description
This talk will focus on the significance of cytopathic hypoxia in sepsis. Specifically, we will highlight pre-clinical and clinical publications which demonstrate mitochondrial dysfunction as a key cellular process associated with sepsis induced end-organ failure. We will discuss how imbalance in mechanisms responsible for mitochondrial quality control (mitochondrial fission, fusion, biogenesis and mitophagy) contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction in sepsis and other inflammatory disorders. Finally, we will discuss the role of peptides and small molecules which target key regulators of mitochondrial fission as a possible therapeutic target in sepsis and other inflammatory disorders.
