In this video, Dr Mike Lloyd, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and CTAD Clinic Director, looks at why the process of internal communication within dissociation may not be working. This is aimed mainly at people with Other Specified Dissociative Disorder (OSDD) and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).
Internal communication is a key part of the stabilisation phase of therapy and as such any technique should always be undertaken within a safe, therapeutic setting. This is not always possible, so ensuring safety and ways of managing any difficulties from using such techniques is vital.
When internal communication, for example with parts or alters, is attempted, it does not always work and Mike addresses a very common reason seen in clinical settings why this might be.
