The topic of this video is: What Is The Price? How Does That Differ From The True Cost?
Here is some of what is discussed in this video:
Charlie: For a top-of-the-line vision insurance company, how do we look at cost? Let's say I'm representing a large company. How do I determine what that cost should be so that I can determine which vision insurance company to go to?
Daniel: Hopefully they're weighing the allowances and the frequency of services. I assume a company is going to get several prices. It's harder to analyze it. Premium dollars is easy to analyze, this is the single rate and this is the family rate. Then you have to actually look at the plan and what it does.
I do see people that just seem to focus on cost and they're not necessarily looking at what the employees are going to end up paying out of pocket at the point of service.
Charlie: It seems to me that there's also the other side of it, that if the vision insurance company is really good and handles all the problems and takes it all off my shoulders as the Head of HR/Benefits (let's say), that's a savings to me that I don't have to worry about. So the difference between what that sticker price is and what the real cost is, if you have great customer service they ought to save me (the Head of HR) a lot of time. Wouldn't you think?
Daniel: Sure, they should save you a lot of time and a lot of headaches. All the small things, I think, would go into a product.
Charlie: We want to make sure that they can work with us; me, the person in HR, and all the people in my company.
Daniel: Right.
Charlie: So we want to make sure that when we look at cost, and we don't just look at that by itself, that we look all those other intangibles like terrific customer service, what it's like when my employee calls through, what's it like for HR, all those things.
Daniel: I would certainly hope.
Charlie: Good answer.
