Tesla's Gigafactory in Shanghai produces more than 7% of the world's new energy vehicles, and now Tesla wants to multiply its capacity by four.

Tesla plans to open a new factory in Shanghai as early as next month, doubling its production capacity to meet growing demand for Tesla vehicles in China and export markets, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Once the new factory is fully operational, Tesla's expanded Shanghai plant will be able to produce as many as 2 million vehicles a year, according to people familiar with the matter.
