This weeks update is How To Get Rainbow Chicken Eggs. My quest to get coloured eggs into our egg basket. I saw a picture of some rainbow coloured eggs when we moved to the farm and thought that is what I would love to have. So my quest began.
I purchased some Black Cooper Maran and Cream Legbar fertilised eggs to incubate to give us chocolate brown and blue eggs. We ended up with 1 black cooper maran hen and 1 BCM rooster and 1 mixed breed, none of the cream legbars hatched. Not the result I was after but a start.
The hen has laid some lovely chocolate brown eggs but currently having a winter rest.
I then purchased 12 Aracana eggs to incubate to give more blues eggs. This was a little bit more successful. This has given us 1 rooster and 3 hens. After 18 months we are now getting some blue/green eggs and hopefully chocolate brown eggs again in time.
Together with our lovely cream coloured eggs from our light sussex chooks we are getting a basket with some pretty coloured eggs.
