You may have noticed our North East Educational Foundation (NEEF) has been out visiting campuses and surprising teachers with innovative grants to fund new projects. You’ll recall they also presented grant checks at each convocation.
It’s a joy to see your dream project come to life with the help of NEEF. Behind me is another dream-come-true. Here, at our Career and Technology Center (CTEC), students in Lee Pearson’s EMT classroom are training to be first responders with a new ambulance simulator.
This is as close as it gets to working in a real ambulance. This fully loaded replica lets high school students enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course practice loading patients, performing CPR and more all while their instructor watches through the camera system on board.
This is the gold-standard in medical training – and it was paid for in full with a $50,000 grant from NEEF. Next week, you’ll have an opportunity to give back to NEISD and your neighborhood schools through our Big Give fundraiser.
Ninety percent of all contributions to campus fundraisers will go right back to the school. The remaining 10% goes to support our NEEF Innovative Grants – so teachers can fund projects like the ambulance simulator at CTEC.
While the Big Give formally runs for 24 hours – from 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, to 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 21 – the early giving period is already underway.
The campus that raises the most funds will receive an additional $1,500 prize, while second place will be awarded $500, and third place will receive an extra $350. If you are interested in donating, visit the link below (northeastfoundation.org/biggive) to select a campus to give to. You can also donate to the NEEF fundraiser.
Before I wrap up, I want to tell you about a new survey on the NEISD website (neisd.net). This survey ties into the ‘Stakeholders’ portion of our Balance District Scorecard (neisd.net/board/scorecard). The survey is a chance for Stakeholders to share how we are doing as we work to expand opportunities for feedback and engagement. Your input is valued here at NEISD. Thank you for your partnership as we work together to make our District the best it can be.
You can visit the Superintendent webpage at the link on your screen (neisd.net/superintendent) to view any of my previous messages.
Thank you for watching. I’ll see you around our District.
