On the morning of January 31st, 1921, the five-master schooner Carroll A. Deering grounded on the Diamond Shoals in North Carolina in stormy weather. When rescue crews from Cape Hatteras were finally able to investigate the ghost ship days later, they found no one on board aside from three starving cats.
