Today, we're diving deep into the world of grapples, specifically focusing on the revolutionary Stinger Grapple Rake designed for tractors ranging from 25 to 50 horsepower. Whether you're a seasoned landowner or just starting out in brush moving tasks, finding the right grapple can make all the difference. Join us as we look at grapple options and explore why the Stinger stands out in the crowded market of tractor attachments.
Grapples are indispensable tools in handling brush, debris, and various loads with ease. There are primarily two types of grapples: the traditional grapple rake and the innovative clamshell grapple, such as the Stinger that I'm showcasing in the video today. I've come to appreciate the efficiency and versatility that the clamshell design offers over the rake-type grapple. With a clamshell mechanism, you push material into a pile and grab it from above. This design minimizes the risk of debris getting rolled up and caught underneath the frame, a common issue with traditional rake grapples.
When evaluating which brush removal tool to invest in, I strongly recommend the dual grapple design. Unlike single-grapple rakes, dual grapples ensure a secure grip on uneven loads, preventing structural strain and hydraulic stress during operation.
Hydraulic placement is important when selecting a grapple. The conventional design is where hoses and cylinders are exposed on top, the Stinger design has these components mounted behind the grapple frame assembly, enhancing reliability and reducing maintenance concerns.
You want to balance the weight of the grapple with the quality of construction. If the grapple takes up over 50% of the lift capacity of the tractor, you're not going to be able to lift much and you can create an unsafe condition when operating with wide logs or when on slopes. The Stinger is crafted with precision using 1/4″ AR200 steel for both the grapples and frame, ensuring a perfect balance of durability and weight for smaller tractors.
Many of the cheaper grapples don't have a way of greasing wear points. While that design works, and may last the average property owner a lifetime, it's better to get lubrication in those pivot points to insure a long life for the attachment. Designed with maintenance in mind, the Stinger includes greaseable wear areas on tubes and cylinders, a feature typically reserved for more expensive models.
When looking at the width of the grapple, don't agonize over being wider that the front tires. It's important to have a bucket that cuts out the tire tracks, but a grapple is going to grab most of the brush in the center and if it sticks out, it won't matter. I actually like a narrower grapple in tight areas in the woods. Available in 56″ or 66″ widths, with either skid steer “Universal” mounts or John Deere “Hook & Pin,” the Stinger adapts seamlessly to different tractor configurations, ensuring compatibility and ease of use.
I'll further sing the praises of the Stinger Grapple's design. From visibility-enhancing slots to duck feet for waste hay collection and bolt-on quick attach plates for easy system conversion, every aspect of the Stinger is engineered with the user’s convenience in mind.
When selecting a grapple for your tractor, it's essential to balance the quality of construction, the features, and the price when making your decision. The Stinger Grapple Rake excels in every aspect, from its innovative clamshell design to its robust construction and thoughtful features that enhance usability and durability.
