Croup is very common in children. It often starts with a runny nose and a cough caused by many of the same viruses that cause the common cold.
The virus causes the throat to swell and creates a barky cough. It can also make your child sound a little hoarse.
Dr. Nelson shares some things you can do for croup at home and when you should bring them in.
At home: Cool mist from a humidifier and cool air will help.
Bring them in to see their pediatrician if:
1) The cough is not improving
2) They start to have trouble breathing
3) They are wheezy
