Aluminum Dent Repair on a Ford F150 using Paintless Dent Repair

So, we got a brand new 2018 aluminum Ford F-150 in for a paintless dent removal of a door ding on the drivers' door.

Watch how I was able to fix a dent in aluminum.

My customer had brought in his truck for the dent repair because he had swung the door open just a little too hard and hit the mirror on another car. That caused this dent in the aluminum door.

Now, when we have to remove a dent in aluminum we still use the same paintless dent repair technique that is used to push out dents in regular steel panels. It just can be a bit harder to remove a dent in aluminum because of the way it is formed. It can take 2 to 3 times as much pressure to push out the dent. This also adds more time needed for an excellent aluminum repair.

This aluminum dent repair video shows that we will use heat to warm the dented area, but this is not just to pop out the dent. The heat gun is used to get the panel to over 100 degrees and usually up to 125-150 degrees. This makes it easier to push out the aluminum and keeps the paint soft enough and not become brittle from having to over push the dent out.

With this dent in the F150 aluminum door, I was able to get access to the back of the dent by going down through the window opening. I had to take extra special care doing this because of the door glass is laminated. Laminated glass is more fragile and can crack causing it to need to be replaced.

This particular dent was just below the door handle and just above an inner door brace. So I had good access to be able to get directly behind the dent for a great repair. This helps tremendously when the dent is in aluminum so that our PDR tools can make precise pushes.

If you are in need of paintless dent repair on aluminum for your car. Then you need to make sure you find someone that specializes in aluminum paintless dent removal. You don’t just anyone to cause more damage by just using an aluminum dent puller and causing more damage to your car and having it cost more money in the long run. Make sure you choose an experienced paintless dent repair professional.
