One person is dead and two people are injured after a small plane crashed Sunday in a Long Island neighborhood in New York.
A video shared by Ken DeFreitas shows the plane crashing into a stand of trees in North Lindenhurst, about 20 miles east of New York City, at around 3 p.m. Sunday. The plane bursts into a ball of flame and black smoke can be seen rising from the crash site.
The plane, a Piper PA 28, was headed to Republic Airport in nearby Farmingdale. According to the East Farmingdale Volunteer Fire Company, the two injured occupants were transported by a Suffolk County Police Department Helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center with severe injuries.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
