A Harrisburg - Philly - New York train races past Princeton Junction at 125 mph. Note the temporary platform over track 1, which is out of service due to ongoing constant tension catenary upgrades. Tracks 3 & 4 already have constant tension wires in place from Monmouth Junction to just north of Hamilton. This will allow a boost in top speed on this stretch from the current 135 mph (217 km/hr) to 160 mph (257 km/hr) in time for the debut of the next gen Acela Express equipment (dubbed Avelia Liberty by manufacturer Alstom). Amtrak has ordered 28 Avelia Liberty trainsets to replace the current fleet of 20 first gen Acelas. The new trains will essentially be the latest TGV design but with the Pendolino active tilt system also included. They should be a nice upgrade over the existing equipment!
