The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is the air force of Malaysia. It was established in 1958, although the roots of Malaysia's military aviation date back to 1933 with the establishment of the Straits Settlements Volunteer Air Force. The RMAF operates a mix of modern aircraft, including fighter jets, transport planes, and helicopters.
The RMAF's primary role is to defend Malaysia's airspace and to support the country's military operations. It also performs a variety of other tasks, such as disaster relief and search and rescue operations. The RMAF works closely with other branches of the Malaysian Armed Forces and with other agencies, such as the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency and the Malaysian Border Security Agency, to ensure the country's security.
The RMAF is headquartered at RMAF Base Butterworth, which is located in Penang, Malaysia. It is organized into a number of squadrons and wings, which are responsible for different types of aircraft and missions. The RMAF is equipped with a mix of modern and older aircraft, including fighter jets such as the Sukhoi Su-30MKM and the Boeing F/A-18D Hornet, transport planes such as the Airbus A400M and the C-130 Hercules, and helicopters such as the Eurocopter AS365 Dauphin and the AgustaWestland AW139. The RMAF also operates a number of training and support aircraft, such as the Pilatus PC-7 and the Beechcraft King Air.
