The strings are all being measured, the sounding lengths and the thicknesses. After putting them into a data base the total string tension on the instrument can be calculated and compared with other instruments of the period. Important to figure out which strings the instrument will get in the future.
Since 2019 the Carl Bechstein Foundation in Berlin is building up a collection of historical keyboard instruments, reflecting the history of the piano. All instruments will be in perfect playing condition and in this film-series you'll see the whole proces of a restoration, starting from a total wreck. This fortepiano was built around 1795 in Vienna by Ferdinand Hofmann (1756-1829).
From this restoration film series are two versions, one with a German voice-over and this one with an English voice-over.
