A large crowd was energized at Taipei's annual New Year's Eve countdown party outside Taipei City Hall on Saturday by a star-studded lineup of singers and dancers as well as the renowned Taipei 101 fireworks display that ushered in 2023.

Over 16,000 fireworks were blasted off over the course of five minutes, along with light shows on the building's four sides that produced a variety of pictures, such as peace birds, cheerful faces, and the tree of life, to convey the show's message of "watching after the globe and illuminating hopes."

The 101-story skyscraper's owner, Taipei Financial Center Corporation, hosted the 19th annual New Year's Eve fireworks display this year, which cost NT$50 million (US$1.63 million).
