Manthan is a 1976 Hindi cinema movie inspired by the milk co-operative movement launched by Verghese Kurien, the architect of India’s ‘ White Revolution ‘. The movie was funded by 500000 farmers who donated Rs.2/- each for making Manthan the first crowd funded Indian movie. The movie was directed by Shyam Benegal and it’s storyline was jointly written by Shyam Benegal and Vijay Tendulkar. The musical score and the melodies were composed by Vanraj Bhatia. The film won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 1976. The title song of the film ‘ Mero gham katha parey ‘ written by Neeti Sagar was sung by Preeti Sagar. The star cast of the film included Girish Karnad, Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah and Amrish Puri . The track is a solo rendition of the song ‘ Mero gaam kaatha parey ‘ on hundred stringed Little Santoor.
