We love having Kürtőskalács during our trips to Budapest! While on one of our many trips to Hungary, we tried popular street food, chimney cakes, or Kürtőskalács as they are called in Hungarian.

However, this time, we tried Kürtőskalács with a twist at Hoppácska, in District IX, where you can choose to have it either savory or as a dessert. As well, you can try another Hungarian specialty, homemade soda syrup in many flavours.

We also had the chance to speak with Hopp Zsolt, one of the owners, about the place and concept.

If you are ever in Budapest, make sure to try something traditional but in another unique way.

This is how they are known in different countries:
Austria – Prügelkrapfen; Germany – Baumstriezel; Luxembourg – Baamkuch (it has become a traditional dish served mostly on special occasions, such as weddings); Poland – Sękacz; Romania - Colac secuiesc; Turkey – makara; Israel as kyortush; South Africa - stokbrood.
