The Supreme Court upheld the order of former Karnataka Assembly speaker Ramesh Kumar to disqualify 17 rebel MLAs of the Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) party. However, the top court turned down the Speaker's decision to ban the MLAs from contesting elections till 2023.
