To ensure a successful installation of a motorized free to air satellite dish, it is essential to mount the dish on a perfectly vertical mast or pole. This is important for both motorized and stationary dishes.
You can use a water level or an angle finder tool like a Johnson Level to ensure that the pole is plumb. By taking the time to accurately measure and align the pole, you will save yourself time and frustration in the long run.
To continue with the installation process, you will need to follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer of your satellite dish and motor. Some general steps to consider include:
Select a suitable installation site with a clear line of sight between the required satellites and the entire surface of the dish, free from obstructions like trees and roof tiles.
Make sure the HH motor is fixed to the vertical mast, following the manufacturer's instructions for mounting it securely.
Tighten all coaxial cable connections on the motor by hand only. Using a wrench may cause damage, which is not covered by the warranty.
If the HH motor shaft is not at zero degrees reference, you can reset it by connecting the receiver to the motor and turning it on. Once you have done this, disconnect the motor from the receiver.
Set the elevation angle for the motor to the latitude value of the installation location. Use the Latitude scale on the motor to do this.
Place the dish on the H-H Motor shaft and tighten the nuts, making sure the middle of the dish clamp is aligned with the center line on the H-H Motor arm. The LNBF arm, dish clamp, HH Motor, and mast should all be on the same straight line facing TRUE SOUTH.
Use a compass to aim the dish/motor assembly at TRUE SOUTH. You can find the TRUE SOUTH angle using a website or app.
Adjust the dish elevation angle to peak the signal using the model of the HH motor you are using. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for specific guidance on this.
Once you have followed these steps and completed the installation, it is important to regularly check and maintain your satellite dish and motor to ensure they continue to function properly. This may include cleaning the dish, checking and tightening connections, and making any necessary adjustments to the dish alignment.
