This EPC Update discussed Russia’s ongoing war of aggression in Ukraine and its multiple consequences for Ukraine, the EU and its member states. How is the situation in Ukraine developing, and what will the EU do to reinforce its immediate support for Kyiv? Will it go far enough? And how should it respond to the asymmetric impacts of the war on and within EU countries?
Longer-term, what else must the EU27 do in light of the new era we now live in? Will enlargement become a geostrategic imperative again, as it was after the fall of the Iron Curtain? How will the EU position itself in this new world, and will it become more strategically autonomous? What should it do to increase its defence capabilities and improve its military readiness? Is there any political will to do this?
