A FIRE which broke out at a Wigan distribution site destroying hundreds of tyres, an HGV vehicle and even a crane may have been started deliberately, according to fire crew.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service received a call about Warisa in Leopold Street, Pemberton, just before 3.30am on Sunday and arrived to find thick black smoke emerging from the site where hundreds of tyres were on fire.
Crew from Wigan and Hindley used five jets to surround the blaze and managed to save one large vehicle and a second crane from the fire.
Incident Commander Dave Scully said: "It was a large compound with hundreds maybe thousands of tyres as well as lots of other things like vehicles and trailers, containers - it was all on fire."
