In his early years, Ieyasu was born as the son of a minor lord of the Tokugawa family in Suruga Province (present-day Shizuoka Prefecture). His childhood was marked by the departure of his father and elder brother, as well as instability due to succession disputes. However, he endured these hardships, and his experiences from a young age shaped his leadership abilities.
In his youth, Ieyasu served under the Imagawa and Takeda clans, gaining experience in numerous battles and negotiations. In the Battle of Okehazama in 1560, he formed an alliance with Oda Nobunaga and defeated the Imagawa clan. This strengthened his relationship with Nobunaga, and later led to an alliance with Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Nobunaga's successor.
However, following Nobunaga's assassination in the Honno-ji Incident of 1582, Ieyasu swiftly took action, emerged victorious in power struggles against Hideyoshi, and began his path towards national unification. In 1590, he carried out the Siege of Odawara under Hideyoshi's orders, bringing the powerful lords of the Kanto region under his control.
