Kamwokya Slum, Uganda

Today I went to visit and have a walking tour in Kamwokya Slum, a well known slum in Kampala, Uganda. Even before I arrived in Kamwokya Slum the scenery was amazing as we snaked our way through the crowds of workers, pedestrians vendors and automobiles all fighting for space on the bustling streets of the city.

Kamwokya Slum is an interesting place which presents an interesting set of challenges for anyone living there.

After chatting with some people some local guide guided me through Kamwokya slum. It's like walking through a maze if you've never been there before. The narrow pathways were lined with shanties and improvised structures that served as these people's homes. Despite how appalling these living conditions look, the people were very welcoming and kind and were very eager to talk to me. I was really touched by the humbleness and gentle nature of the people of Kamwokya Slum.
