NICKY'S TOP # TIPS + A BONUS TIP

TOP 3 from Nicky: The first is scanning! Always be scanning on the attacking and defending side to plan ahead. The game of soccer is like "chess-on-the-pitch" you should have multiple ways to strategically be involved (including a decoy move).
The second is reading. You have to anticipate so reading the field and those closet to you is key to successful outcomes. Scanning and reading go hand in hand.
The third is responding! I said responding not reacting. You have scanned and read the field and now it's just timing out your response based on your reads. Your response is about timing-speed changes-space changes-runs or steals and where you should be all based on reading the opponents and your team - or reading the field. It is about having both a holistic and local view/plan to create your responses (and never to just react) then get out there .... (the fourth) communicate and execute them.

Soccer is a fluid game and you must consistently scan-read-respond to have the adaptive intelligence and creativity to be successful. Here is a great add on to that; your communication, be sure to communicate with teammates to have team success. -Nicky
