Here's a quick peek into my studio today as I show you my process of toning a canvas to create a “café au late” tone, the similar tone that the Paul Cezanne and the Impressionists used.
I am demonstrating toning a sheet of Arches Oil Paper and also primed linen.
The materials I use in this video:
. Odorless Mineral Spirits (Gamsol, amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. Ultramarine Blue (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. Burnt Sienna (PR101) (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. Raw Sienna (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. palette knife. (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. silicoil brush cleaner (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. Rosemary Brush, Size 8 Classic Filbert Hogs Bristle
. Arches Oil Paper (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. White, Primed Linen from Pad (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
. Rags (amazon link: [ Ссылка ])
Also, I believe it is a good idea to always tone your painting support before you start painting. I tone my canvases a few days before I am going to start a painting because I want the toned layer to be set and dry. Always thin the paint mixture you use with odorless mineral spirits.
As a tip, if you have a lot of blank canvases, tone them all at once, that way they will be dry and ready for you whenever you need to start a new painting.
