Daughter of Dosan, Susan Ahn Cuddy

Born in 1915 in Los Angeles, she have graduated from San Diego State University and joined the United States Navy in 1942 during World War II

First Asian American woman to join US Navy
First Female Gunnery Officer in US Navy

Her first application was rejected due to anti-Asian segment. Later she surpassed racism and became U.S. Navy gunnery officer and a Lieutenant and Navy intelligence.

Susan was the great leader of The National Security Agency (NSA) and managed over 300 agents during the cold war.

“I did anything I could do to help the country. They won’t let me see the all the messages because I was Asian. They gave me all these menial jobs, which I did … they realized that I could do things for them.” KTLA interview

Her father, Ahn Chang-Ho, was Korean Independence Activist. His last word before being apart at an age of 11 was

“Be good Americans but don’t forget your mother land.”

She spent rest of her life supporting Korean American Community, such as Young Korean Academy and the 3.1 Women Association.

She was the first Korean American to receive ‘American Courage Award’ from the Asian American Justice Center in 2006.

In March 10th 2015, Los Angeles County designated ‘Susan Ahn Cuddy Day’

In May, 2016 Time Magazine choose Susan Ahn Cuddy as ‘UNSUNG WOMEN’

Today, she is remembered as a secret-keeper, a brave officer and a community icon, one of a generation of Asian Americans who rushed to serve their country despite the racism they faced at every turn. –Time

Susan passed away last year at an age of 100.
June 24th is the first year of Susan Ahn Cuddy’s Remembrance Day.

Susan was influential and inspire to many Korean Americans.
