Junction box meets the joist (revised).
I had limited time to complete my renovations before Airbnb guests check in and ran into the issue of ceiling joist being right on the way where J-box had to go before installing ceiling light. I came up with DIY creative solution - cutting junction box to the size I need in order for me to fit it and taping open space with electrical tape.
I knew it's not the right way to do the job, but was in rush and that's the only thing I came up fast.
I got a lot of criticism for this work and finally figured what is the proper way to install fixture in those cases, because of post on Facebook with similar work. Pancake or pan box came as help and was easy install and solution.
