Welcome to my full spec static review of the Whyte e-160RS 2022. #whytee160 #emtb #review
I spent a day on the Southdowns national park near Eastbourne, testing this monster of an eMTB. It was my very first experience of an eMTB and I wanted to see just what all the fuss was about! I was blown away with it!
Massive thanks to Yann from @40somethingrider for trusting with and allowing me to test his awesome bike. Please go check out Yann's channel:

I've based my review on my own personal experience comparing it against my regular analogue full-sus and hardtail.

The test bike:
WHYTE E-160RS
Frame: (Size = LARGE)
6061 hydroformed aluminium, 155mm travel
Shock:
Fox Float Performance DPS
Fork:
Fox Float 38 Performance Grip, 160mm travel
Motor:
Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 4 85 Nm max torque
There are four levels of varying support available: Eco, Tour, eMTB and Turbo. The eMTB mode takes on a special function here: it switches between Tour and Turbo. With a maximum torque of 85 Nm, the motor dynamically supports the rider at anything from 140% to 340%. The graduated motor support automatically adapts to the rider’s riding style depending on the pressure being exerted on the pedals. This improves off-road riding and makes steep ascents easier, in particular.
ECO = 60% assistance
TOUR = 140% assistance
EMTB = 140% - 340% it switches between Tour and Turbo dynamically supporting the rider.
TURBO = 340% assistance

The E160rs that I tested was a large and the overall weight was 25.14kg. The 625Wh Bosch internal PowerTube battery comes in at 3.9kg, so bike without battery would be approx 21.24kg depending on size.
My Verdict of the E-160 RS is 9/10 these are my thoughts why:
For those of you with power in your bike storage area, the E-160 RS is no brainier. If not, you’re more likely to blow a fuse. In fact, if it wasn’t for the arduous process required to remove and install the battery, the Whyte would easily get 10/10. This bike rides so amazingly well that I feel a bit harsh to mark the E-160 RS down a point.
Whyte did a vast amount of testing with prototype bike that had an empty motor case and battery case that was filled with bike chains to replicate the weight of the full ebike, all due to fact that Bosch had not released their equipment! Whyte wanted a completed bike that was as dynamic and as close to an analog enduro bike as possible.
Whyte has also done a brilliant job of tuning the rear suspension, it has a lively, poppy feel on small bumps and trail ripples but bucket loads of support to hold you up and push against to allow you to generate speed and air across natural gaps. It felt the most composed at high-speed and never flinched when landing step downs and jumps, it had my back with everything I threw at it and at whatever pace I was riding at. It left me feeling confident, in control and wanting so much more.
This bike 100% Hits the all the ride and handling sweet spots, Getting the battery out for charging was the only negative.

Whyte T130s and Whyte 905
