What is warping in Ableton Live? Great question. We’ll use a dialog vocal as an example:
To warp or time stretch a vocal, you have to get a vocal, of course...
I’m sampling a line from the movie Good Will Hunting.
Then you have to download your vocal.
Just google “YouTube to mp3” and you’ll find tons of sites that will do this for you:

I use a Mac-only product called “Audio Hijack” to record my system audio. And that lets me grab the vocal quickly:

When you drag the vocal into Ableton, Ableton will probably automatically warp the sample.
I like to turn this warping OFF because Ableton could be stretching or compression the vocal clip.
Then align the vocal approximately where you need it to go.
Chop it up if necessary.
Then I’ll turn warp back ON so I can move the individual words with warp markers.
CAUTION: You may run into Ableton warping problems! The grid in the audio editor doesn’t always line up with the grid in the arrangement view.
Watch the video at 3:20 to see how I deal with this problem.
Once your clip grid and arrangement grid are aligned, I recommend changing the clip grid to 16th notes.
Just right click in the clip grid and select 1/16.
Why? Because 16th notes are the smallest you need to be concerned with.
That being said, I try my best to only align words that are close to the BEATS and OFF-BEATS.
I try to keep the original vocal as clean and unwarmed as possible.
Finally, for best results, stick with the COMPLEX warping mode when working with vocals.
