At this Lab Notes event we hear from Prof Jody Mason and Prof Myra Conway from our Bristol and Bath Research Network. The event focusses on research into key proteins in Alzheimer’s, and how they are made, folded and recycled in the brain, and how this goes wrong in the disease. The event is chaired by Dr Katy Stubbs from Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Prof Jody Mason from University of Bath spoke about how amyloid is produced in Alzheimer’s, and some of the strategies being explored to prevent this as a way to treat the disease. Prof Myra Conway from University of the West of England shared research into autophagy, a recycling process in the brain that is overwhelmed in Alzheimer’s by the build up of misfolded proteins.
