In this video, the BZ Academy Instructor team dives into a challenging home defense scenario: how to handle a one-man CQB (Close Quarters Battle) situation when a potential threat is hiding in the corner of a room, lying in wait and ready to fire. This intense scenario explores which tactics might help someone improve their chances of successfully engaging or evading an attacker in close quarters.
We tested four different techniques to see how they might play out in this high-risk situation:
Slicing the Pie – Taking a methodical, cautious approach to clear the room gradually.
Running Into the Room – Committing fully to enter and dominate the space.
Elevation Change – Altering the height of entry to change the attacker's expectations.
Zero Exposure – Trying to minimize exposure by avoiding entry as much as possible.
The results? We learned a lot, but this video isn’t intended as a definitive guide to what works or what doesn’t. Instead, it’s an experimental look at which techniques might be effective and which ones might not. Real-life variables and situational differences mean that results will always vary. So, take these tests as insights rather than guaranteed solutions!
