At least 64,000 people in Banteay Meanchey province are ready for disaster at the end of a major project coordinated by ActionAid.
Funded by European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO), 'Building Disaster Resilient Communities in Cambodia II' ran from April 2014 to December 2015. It aimed to prepare vulnerable communities for increasing frequency and intensity of flooding and drought.
The figure includes 46,000 people directly assisted through the project and 18,000 registered for a mobile telephone early warning system.
ActionAid led a national consortium involving DanChurchAid, People in Need, Oxfam and Save the Children plus 10 local NGO partners on the EUR2.4 million project, which covered four provinces and around 200,000 beneficiaries altogether.
