In the 80s and 90s, Americans responded to the disparity between men and women in the workplace with a simple solution: make women more like men.
In direct response, Pope (Saint) John Paul II identified and proclaimed what he called "the feminine genius"—all of the particular ways in which women are a gift to the world, and the "piece of humanity" we'd be losing if we asked them to "be more like men."
