Tiger Grass or locally called "Luway" in Bisaya " Tambo" in Tagalog. The harvesting is done from February to May.  This  "walis tambo" are made by native Romblomanon.  These are woven into soft brooms and sold in a various colors to become a novelty item for visitors to buy. These are not  simply households cleaning materials nor its a treasure in every Romblomanon one of the main livehood and source of income for the people here.
So today I will go to a place where the main production of "Walis Tambo in ( Dona Juana, San Agustin, Romblon ) wherever it is done with hands.
PROCESS OF MAKING SOFT BROOM " Walis Tambo"
🍃"Tapas Luway" Cut the panicles with a sharp scythe or bolo.
🍃"Buyad sa araw" Gather panicles and sun-dry for two to three days. Regularly turn the panicles for uniform and fast drying.
🍃"Lampos Luway" Slightly shake or pat dried panicles against
stone or wood to remove seeds.
🍃" Kisnit" Sort the panicles
according to length.Shear some of its first spikelet (flowers) and
ensure that an average remaining length is maintained.
🍃 "Porma" Tie these sheared
spikelets to the main stem to add thickness to the broom. Maintain some of the stalks to serve as handle.Tightly bind
together the stalks using tie wire to form the handle.Use wood or bamboo stick as handle bind together with the panicles.
🍃 "Tahi " Arrange the panicles into fan-like form with plastic string or split rattan. Decorate the handle or wrap with rolled
plastic or split rattan to indicate the origin of the product.
