After a slight break... we're back! It's now officially not too early to say the 'C' word- it's time to prepare for Christmas 🎄🎄
Mincemeat really needs a good 3-4 weeks to develop the flavours properly before you use it in Mince Pies, so the beginning of November is really the best time to start preparing. If you've never made your own Mincemeat, this recipe will convert you from the mixture you can buy in the shops, and it's such an easy one to follow! Just be sure that if you're wanting to add nuts you do it just before you use it.
To follow this video, you will need:
1 large 'Kilner' Jar (or 2 medium jars)
1 large mixing bowl
1 food processor
1 grater (for lemon zest and apple)
120g shredded suet (beef or vegetable)
200g raisins
200g sultanas
100g currants
100g chopped apricots
100g mixed peel
100g glace cherries (quartered)
200g soft brown sugar
1 lemon (zest and juice)
1 medium cooking apple (peeled and grated)
1 (level) teaspoon mixed spice
2 tablespoons brandy (or lemon/orange juice)
There's certainly a lot of fruit in this recipe, but it makes for a wonderful tasting mincemeat!
