Elaine made numerous political documentaries in her native South Africa before graduating from the National Film and Television School with her first feature film On The Wire(British Film Institute award for best first film). She then wrote and directed the feature films Friends (official selection of the Cannes film festival, Mention Speciale Prix De La Camera D'Or) and Kin, both distributed globally to critical acclaim. She wrote the film script Paradise and the Dog of Plenty and two BBC television thrillers. Her first novel,Rhumba, was published by Quercus Books May 2012. Her second The Savage Hour will be published by Quercus Books in Spring 2014. She adapted her novel Rhumba for film. Production commences 2014.
Elaine sits on the chapter for screenwriting at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts and is a member of the Writer's Guild of Great Britain.
