00:00 How to access to washer pumps
- As in the previous episodes, I do a 160 tkm service for my BMW F20 car
- In the previous episode, the power management was fixed by replacing the battery with an original BMW battery
- Now it's time to find out why the rear window washer pump is not working
- Fault code 804288, Washer fluid pump, rear: Break in wiring or short circuit to B+
- To access the washer pumps I have to remove the right wheel arch cover rear section
02:01 Remove washer fluid reservoir
- Release plastic expanding rivets
- Pull the washer fluid reservoir out of the guides (arrow) in the direction of the arrow
- Position the top tube of the reservoir to get the reservoir down
- The washer pumps for the rear and front window, as well as the headlights, are attached to the washing reservoir
- Disconnect the washing pump connector and disconnect the washing pump itself from the washing tank
- The rubber seal of the washing pump is apparently cracked in several places
- Unlock latch and detach hose pipe from washer pump
04:53 Diagnosis rear washer pump fault
- Let's test the washing pump, whether it is faulty or not
- This washer pump is fine. Something else is now causing the inactivity!
- The volts only go up to 10.6 volts. Now here's something weird!
- Let's check the continuity from the FEM unit connector to the washer pump connector
- From plug connector "A173*4B" PIN 48 is for "Activation Rear washer pump"
- There is no continuity in this line?!
- Let's follow this wire and see if the wire is OK
- Let's test the continuity of the cable from half to half
- The connection from the FEM unit to this half works!
- This washer pump side of the cable is not OK!
- Next, check the washer pump connector
- The washer pump connector is fine!
- I'll have to take a closer look at that cable
11:16 The fault was found and the washing pump fault repair
- The cables "get thicker" the higher you go??!!
- The entire cable set is either overheated and swollen!!
- I don't know if a new cable set is even available for this?
- But, let's try to fix this by rewiring
13:07 Test the operation of the washing pumps
- Let's test if the problem is fixed!
- Let's delete the fault codes. Let's see if the error code still appears
- The fault code disappeared, the next step is to test the pump's operation
- I check the status of a few functions before the test
- Next, the rear washer pump is activated
- It works!
- Next, the headlight washer pump and the windshield washer pump are tested
- All washing pumps work correctly! Next, put the car back together
17:19 All washer pumps working?
- The left headlight washer does not come out, and neither does the washer fluid
- Done! All washing pumps work now!
- The left headlight washer needs to be repaired later
Let’s continue with the next episode! Stay tuned!

My purpose is to encourage people to do things themselves!
Plus, this is a nice hobby for myself and at the same time I have the opportunity to save a lot of money by doing all the maintenance myself!
I’m not a professional with cars or motorcycles, I just want to learn how to do things myself.
If you do this service yourself, always check the correct instructions in the official service manuals. This is just my way of doing it!
