Biomes are the living spaces of life and are a fundamental pillar in the balance of nature. They correspond to certain areas or zones that, due to their geographical characteristics, share a climate and flora and fauna. It is a set of ecosystems where all the living beings that inhabit there are closely related to each other and to their environment. Shamwari Private Game Reserve is home to five of South Africa's nine major biomes, providing rich vegetation types that are suitable for an array of animal and plant species to thrive in.
This week Head Ranger Andrew Kearney takes a look at the variety of biomes found on the Reserve and some of the unique aspects that sets them aside. Stay tuned for this Two Part series.
