The Education Rights Campaign has urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritise adequate funding of public education in Nigeria, utilising the country's resources effectively. This call comes in response to the indefinite postponement of the student loan policy, which has left Nigerian students in limbo.
According to Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the postponement was necessary to refine the policy further. However, the Education Rights Campaign group sees this delay as a setback for students, particularly as fees in public tertiary institutions have been increased in anticipation of the policy's implementation.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hassan Taiwo Soweto, the group demands the immediate reversal of any fee increases in public tertiary institutions. They emphasise the importance of ensuring access to affordable education for all Nigerian students and urge President Tinubu to take decisive action to address the challenges facing the education sector.
