This video is a demonstration of Open Altimetry, an exploration and visualization tool for data from the NASA ICESat and ICESat-2 satellites. It allows users to quickly and easily search data, create simple visualizations, and get access to download data files. This video was created for the “Working with Cloud-Based NASA Earth Observations Data and Tools” tutorial presented on December 4, 2020 during the American Geophysical Union (AGU)'s 2020 Fall Meeting. The tutorial was developed and presented by the NASA Polar Oceanography DAAC (PODAAC) and the NASA Snow and Ice Distributed Active Archive Center at the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). It is narrated by NSIDC senior research scientist Walt Meier.
OpenAltimetry is a NASA-funded project and is a collaboration between NSIDC, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and the San Diego Supercomputer Center at the University of California-San Diego.
