Professor Hugh Pennington says the problem with the herd immunity approach is that "you'd have to infect 60, or 70, or maybe 80% of the population."
Speaking to Ian Collins on talkRADIO, Professor Pennington said the main problem with handling the coronavirus outbreak in the UK is that people are not self isolating when they were meant to, "the number of people who self isolate they are supposed to is actually less than 20%."
He added that "if you're wearing a mask and you've got a virus, it may significantly reduce the chance that you're going to infect anybody else."
