The Mannheim market square in the northern part of Mannheim's inner city (so-called "Western Lower Town "), just west of the Kurpfalzstraße , is one of the oldest and most frequented squares in the city. It includes the entire square G 1. At the southern end is the baroque double building of the Old Town Hall (now a café) and the Catholic parish church of St. Sebastian , which is the oldest building in Mannheim. The square itself is dominated by Marktplatzbrunnen , the Elector Karl Theodordonated to the city in 1767.
