Today I’m doing a little weekday workday mowing of my perennial rye grass in December. Winter lawn care? What?! Lol yes that’s right you can still maintain a lawn in December. BUT, it all depends on the temperatures in your area.
Here in West Texas we have highs in the 60s and lows in the 40 to mid 30’s. Soil temps are at 50 degrees and my perennial rye grass in some area still growing. The little over growth areas are due to the Urea in dog pee which is cause some excessive growth. Which in turn is throwing off my cut height in some areas.
So there YES I can still mow in December! Plus we have not had a hard frost or freeze and snowfall is non-existent in my area. All in all I’m able to “enjoy the mow” as The Lawn Care Nut would say. This is was the whole reason for my over seeding project in the first place. To get outside and enjoy my backyard.
