Oxford Real Farming Conference 2022 discussion with Julia Wright; Janus Bojesen Jensen; Melissa Roussopoulos.
This interactive session explores how the farming sector can develop a more conscious connection with nature as a constructive way forward for de- industrialisation and decolonisation initiatives. Such a connection has underpinned food gathering and production in the UK over centuries, and is of course still relevant in many cultures. This exploration is timely. The recent declaration “Whitewashed Hope” (2021) saw indigenous organisations and leaders critiquing the regenerative agriculture and permaculture movements for offering narrow solutions while missing “the deep cultural and relational changes needed”. 2021 also saw the emergence of the Conscious Food Systems' Alliance (Co-FSA) of the UNDP, which is concerned with “reconnecting with ourselves, each other and nature”.
This session provides an opportunity to reflect on what this could mean for UK farming and food systems as well as to suggest entry points for conscious practice. Underpinning this is the understanding that we need inner transformation in order to fully realise outer change. There will be time for discussion, participants will be signposted to ways they can develop their work with the consciousness of nature, and a learning network will be established. The session will include a nature constellations exercise to explore how we are connected through consciousness with the life around us.
