A line snaked down the street and around the block in downtown Chicago as residents who wanted to make sure their votes were counted braved a chilly and rainy day.
They turned out on Thursday to cast their ballots early, weeks ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election.
Voters say they think the fears of contracting the coronavirus has prompted millions of Americans to vote by mail.
But they are worried about the "chaos and confusion" that President Donald Trump has created about mail-in voting.
Retired Chicago couple David and Julie Jacobson requested mail-in ballots, but decided to vote in person instead.
"I wanted to make sure that my vote was not just counted, but counted fast," said David Jacobson, 68.
Julie Jacobson, 59, said she'd become "terrified about what's going to happen to mail-in ballots. So, no monkey business, I wanted to make sure my ballot was counted."
