A Malawi Airforce helicopter has delivered aid to a Catholic school in the Mozambican town of Chibabava, 80 kilometres (50 miles) southwest of Beira.
The delivery of food was welcomed by children who have endured immense hardship in recent days.
This is the first time they have received any aid, but now more is on its way.
In Beira on Wednesday, a U-S cargo plane landed ahead of the first U-S helicopter arrivals due to land on Thursday.
In the nearby Sava river district, aid is finally getting through to those who need it.
But there are still many who are waiting for relief.
SOUNDBITE: (Portuguese)
"We are here because of the floods. We have nothing anymore. We are suffering because we have no food."
SUPER CAPTION: Antonio Joaquim, Voxpop
These people were rescued by helicopter from the flooded village of Machanga.
They were brought onto higher ground in the Sava region and are now waiting to go home.
After delivering the food, the helicopters stop along the Sava River, where they collect more food for a second drop before returning to Beira.
As the floodwaters recede, hundreds are confirmed dead and almost one (m) million people are still homeless and in desperate need of help.
