Hello - I'm Randy and I made my first paper mache Santa Claus 37 years ago, before computers or internet (no kidding, and yes - I'm really old...). I just had to figure it out on my own. I have shipped Santas all over the world.
This video is how I sculpt paper mache pulp onto a piece of driftwood to make a Santa Claus face on it.
My paper mache pulp is basic - just newspapers, water, and paste - nothing else. I usually use liquid wallpaper paste, but ANY water-based glue will work. The paints I use are mostly basic acrylic craft paints in the 2 oz. bottles. The "antiquing" process I use after painting the Santa is not shown in the video. You don't have to use it, I just like the look - see below for the antiquing gel I use. When I finish all the painting and it is dry, I spray it with Krylon Matte spray. I prefer the matte look.
