The Olive Oil Pressing workshop demonstrates, with the help of students, how the Maccabees refined 'Shemen Zayit Zach" pure olive oil for the Beis HaMikdash Menorah as described in the Chanukah story.
Participants hand-press fresh olives in an olive press then purify the olive juice and quickly extract the pure olive oil - authentic "Shemen Zayit Zach. As the olive oil is refined, the students hand spin wicks out of cotton and then light the Chanukah Menorah with the resulting oil.
At the conclusion, each class assembles a Chanukiah kit that produces a close replica of the Beit HaMikdash Menorah. Children can also make their own Rambam Menorah to take home.
