On May 31, 1985 a potent severe setup presented itself in a very unusual spot, the Great Lakes Region. The risk was recognized ahead of the event as almost every ingredient that you need for severe weather was present, and then some. The day itself would live up to the hype as a record amount of tornadoes would touch down in the Great Lakes Area. Unfortunately nearly 90 people perished during this outbreak, making it one of the deadliest outbreaks in U.S. history. This day would also see the furthest east F5 tornado in U.S. history along with almost ten other violent F4 tornadoes. This video documents these tornadoes and the severe weather setup that led to this historic outbreak as well.
